Boracay is perhaps the most well known destination in the Philippines. It’s known for its long stretch of white sand, turquoise waters and incredible nightlife. It also draws the largest crowds, with many party lovers from Manila making the flight for a weekend of wild beach parties. Boracay is after all the party destination in the country. While you’ll easily be entertained until sunrise, there’s also plenty of fun to be had during the day. So this is my list of the BEST 8 things to do in Boracay.
1. Diniwid Beach
While everyone might come to Boracay for White Beach, there are plenty of equally beautiful and much quieter beaches on the island. My personal favourite is Diniwid Beach, which also happens to have some incredibly scenic accommodation options.
2. Spider House Resort
My absolute favourite thing to do in Boracay was spend the day hanging out at Spider House, somewhere I happily visited day after day. It’s also one of the deciding factors that made Diniwid my favourite beach on the island. Spider House is a rustic bamboo-built resort, bar and restaurant that’s so popular people spend their entire day chilling here. Their floating pontoon is also a crowd favourite (and mine too).
3. Puka Beach
Puka Beach is perfect if you’re looking for a relaxed, Caribbean vibe minus the crowds. However, less tourists also mean fewer eating and dining options, so prices are slightly higher than what you’d pay at White Beach.
4. Grab a Fruit Shake at Jonah’s
Jonah’s Fruit Shake and Snack Bar is home to the BEST mango shake I’ve ever had. Period! It’s an institution on the island, so to truly experience Boracay you must hit up Jonah’s for one of their famous shakes.
5. Drunk Cliff Diving
Ariel’s Point is a very popular day trip that revolves around a buffet lunch, unlimited alcohol and cliff diving from three different platforms. Not exactly the kind of activities that go hand in hand. So my best advice would be to start the cliff jumping when you first arrive and not after a buffet feast and numerous drinks. Most of the people belly flopping from 15m was as a result of the alcohol infused courage they’d suddenly acquired. If unlimited food and alcohol doesn’t interest you, then you can hire a catamaran to Magic Island, which also has some impressive diving boards.
6. Kitesurfing & Windsurfing at Bulabog Beach
Bulabog beach is teaming with avid kite and wind surfers from all over the world. There are also plenty of training schools and instructors if you fancy trying it out yourself. If you personally excel more at being a spectator, then you can simply swing in a hammock while marveling at the experts as they do their crazy tricks (or laughing at all the rookies, which ever you find most entertaining).
7. Become a Mermaid
One of the most unique and Instagram worthy activities you can do in Boracay is a mermaid lesson. Am I actually in this image? No, because I didn’t partake in this amazing bucket list worthy activity, and this will remain one of life’s biggest regrets. So don’t be like me and live a life full of regrets, become a mermaid for a day! You don’t just get to partake in an awesome mermaid photo-shoot. No. This is a practical activity after all. You’ll learn the useful life skill of how to swim with a tail, which I’m sure one day will come in handy (maybe). For those extra confident mermaids you can also go scuba diving. So if you’ve ever dreamed of being a mermaid, then Boracay is where dreams come true. Don’t worry men aren’t left out, there’s also mermen lessons for your significant other. Talk about a romantic activity for those honeymooners.
8. Sunset at White Beach
If you have high standards for what constitutes an epic sunset like myself, then Boracay will be perfect for you. Forget about orange skies as the sun sets on the horizon. No. That’s boring and predictable, and no one likes a #basic sunset. Instead what you’ll get at White Beach is dozens and dozens of sailboats, a paddle boarder or two and breathtaking combinations of orange, yellow, pink and purple. All this while lounging on a beanbag drinking your happy hour priced drink.
